“Stunning photographs from French and Swiss Alps – from Chamonix and Mont Blanc massive to Zermatt and Matterhorn, Grindelwald and the scary North Face of the Eiger.
Part of the pictures showing alpinists climbing down the arrete to Valley Blanche above Chamonix were taken only hours before the tragic incident on August 24, when avalanche not far from there on Mont Blanc du Tacul took life of eight of them.
The slide caught the climbers at altitude of 3600 meters and carried the eight missing victims 1000 meters down the face.
The circumstances that caused the avalanche could not have been foreseen by any of the climbers, though slides of this nature are not uncommon to the region.
